Clarification on Issues from Round 1 / 2025
To all racers, teams, and involved parties,
As you may be aware, a dispute arose from a protest regarding the use of a “CNC crankcase” in the Minibike 150cc Open class, which became a topic of discussion on social media. Following the protest, race officials ruled that the component did not comply with the competition regulations, resulting in the disqualification (DQ) of the rider involved and removal of their race result in that category.
On behalf of Superbikemag.com, the event organizer, we would like to provide the following clarification:
- The rules and regulations for the Minibike 150cc Open class, as published on our website https://www.superbikemag.com/trackday/trophy/#TrophyRules under item 11:
“the engine based on the original factory specifications. Full modifications are allowed.”
This is interpreted to mean that the external engine parts (crankcase / cylinder / head) must be original factory parts for that specific model of motorcycle. The Race Director upheld this interpretation and issued the penalty as a result of the protest.
The cause of the misunderstanding
- What affected the penalized rider and their team was that prior to the event, a member of the event staff had incorrectly informed the team that CNC crankcases were allowed. However, that staff member, who serves as the track announcer, is not a race official or director, and does not have authority or sufficient knowledge to provide rulings or clarifications on technical regulations.
- Additionally, the technical inspection team did not fully or thoroughly check all motorcycles, which allowed the non-compliant motorcycle to pass inspection and participate. After the protest and a subsequent check, only 1 of the 9 bikes in question was inspected and found to violate the rules.
To be fair to all parties and to compensate for the impact caused by shortcomings from the organizing side (as detailed above), rider number 900, Mr. Saran Sukkasem from Tum Riding School in the Minibike 150cc class, will receive double points (x2) for Sunday’s race in Round 2, under the condition that the motorcycle used must comply with the regulation:
“The engine is based on the original factory specifications. Full modifications are allowed.”
For example:
– If Rider #900 finishes 1st place, instead of the usual 20 points, he will receive 40 points.
– If finishing 9th place, instead of 7 points, he will receive 14 points.
The Superbikemag.com TrackDay & Trophy event maintains its core goal of being a track practice and competition event tailored for beginners and amateur riders — promoting fun, safety, camaraderie, and affordability. It is also a platform to develop riders’ skills, combining unique race formats with professional standards, approaching international levels. A representative from the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of Thailand (FMSCT) is included in the race officiating committee at every round, including Round 1.
Measures to Prevent Future Issues:
- Clarify and enhance the technical regulations for all racing classes.
- Specify clearly which components can or cannot be modified in the official registration and consent documents.
Finally, we thank all participants for their cooperation and sincerely apologize for this incident. We will take this situation as a serious learning experience to improve the standards of our future events.
Sincerely,
Superbikemag.com Trackday & Trophy Organizer
